After more than 13 years as Chairman of the Community Bank at Margate, Serge Paggiaro retired in 2021.
He was a founding member of the bank, which is a Bendigo Bank franchise.
"We opened the bank in December 2005, as a result of all the major banks closing their Margate branches."
Serge recalled. The bank based on community need, has donated more than $800,000 to local charities and community groups, since its inception. it also awards an annual $2500 scholarship to a deserving local student.
Located at the Margate Village Shopping Centre, it paid its first dividend and made $100 million in footings. A long time Peninsula resident since 1964, Serge Paggiaro attended local schools and also ran travel agencies before retiring to assist establishing the bank.
Serge was also past president of the Rotary Club of Kippa Ring, Past President of the Redcliffe Hockey Club, Redcliffe Bicentennial committee and involved in various community and sporting organisations of the past 48 years.
Serge Paggiaro is listed on the wall of the Redcliffe Wall of Fame:
A collection of portrait and information honouring the achievements of individuals who have influenced and shaped Redcliffe. The collection is in the Jetty Arcade at 139-141 Redcliffe Parade.
